RFID Technology

Radio frequency identification (RFID) technology is used in many everyday applications, such as Transport for London's Oyster system. RFID has many potential applications in the museum and exhibition sector, and we are ideally placed to design and implement the technology in these environments.

RFID technology can be at the core of the way an interactive works, such as the Golden Eggs interactive at the Churchill Museum. RFID tags are concealed within the eggs, so the visitor can influence the outcome by placing different eggs in the central “reader”.

In addition, Delta were asked to assist with the large-scale implementation of RFID technology at the British Music Experience. In this case, visitors' tickets already contain an RFID tag, so they can interact at various points by touching their ticket onto a reader pad. Delta were asked by Land Design Studio and Sysco AV to design and produce the reader pads, which included some custom electronics to provide a visual and audible indication that a ticket has been read successfully.
